Lightman Saga – J. Higgins

Picture 3Higgins’ Light Man Saga is an amalgam of long-exposure photography, stop-motion animation, and a process called “light painting”, whereby trails of light can be manipulated and captured by a digital camera. In this work, Higgins and a group of volunteers demonstrate how these different processes can be combined into a short animated video. It is truly a unique work, one of a kind, as the light painting in each frame is slightly different from the one before and after it, lending a disjointed feel to the subject, the Light Man, as he emerges out of the darkness and explores the new world in which he finds himself.
